Wen's Classic French Toast
No pretensions or funky ingredients, this is my basic (and most popular) French toast recipe. It is full of buttery cinnamon-vanilla flavor that will ignite your taste buds. It is the ultimate in comfort food. Serve with hot real maple syrup.
4 eggs
2/3 cup milk
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
6 slices day old bread
butter
Beat the eggs until thick and lemon colored in a large flat bowl or pie plate. Beat in the milk, brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well mixed. Dip three slices of bread into the egg mixture and flip over several times. While the bread is soaking, Melt the butter in a large heavy skillet over medium heat. Fry the bread slices in the butter until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes on each side. Repeat with the remaining bread and egg mixture. Serve hot.
Makes 2 servings.
